About This Post
"I stripped the top, which is laminate, and gave it an extra heavy sand with 80 grit sandpaper. Usually 220 is sufficient but this was extra slick. The paint was adhering well to the body so I gave it a really good sand and gave the entire piece three coats of primer, checked for adhesion issues and everything was sticking. The paint color is a custom light, warm gray. I used General Finishes Snow White and Antique White in equal parts (1 cup each) and added a little Perfect Gray (1/8 cup) After this, it gets blurry because I wanted a smidge more gray and just a bit warmer so I added a little Millstone and more Perfect Gray. When the piece is done, I always regret not writing down exact amounts but in the moment, I’m just looking for that perfect tone.
I used General Finishes Smokey Gray Glaze in the little design under the top drawer just to make it stand out and not get lost. I didn’t want a drastic change in the look just more definition. I sealed the piece with multiple coats of High Performance Topcoat in satin. The original hardware got just a bit of Rub-n-Buff gold leaf gilding wax just to freshen it up." - Newbac Designs
