"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder! That’s just what my client saw when she picked this piece up off the side of the road. When she dropped it off for me to save, we had a GOOD laugh! It was literally falling apart…we even named it “the lost cause!” She was adamant though, that we try and save it as she saw its potential and had a clear vision for it!
After a full days work of rebuilding this from the inside out, it proved itself that it was no longer a lost cause, but a strong and sturdy...
"I’m slowly coming around to black. Someone once told me that interior designers say that every room should have some black in it. Which is interesting to me because I always think every room should have some pink in it. Soooo, clearly I’m no interior designer. But I digress… This Empire style beauty was painted in General Finishes Lamp Black with delicate distressing. Then, two coats of GF High Performance Topcoat in Gloss toned with GF’s water based Ebony stain for more depth. And a final...
"Make a statement of excellence without saying a word! That’s exactly what this finished piece represents to me! I played around with a few staging options, but in the end I knew she could handle it on her own!

"Believe me when I say, I tried EVERYTHING to find a spot for this beauty in my house. I purchased this piece from Habitat for Humanity Restore and instantly thought bar cart, but this piece is so versatile that you could use it as a coffee bar, a media stand, a plant stand, even a mobile book shelf. The entire piece was paint washed in General Finishes Millstone, this color is easily becoming one of my favorite neutrals! "Design for the present, with an awareness of the past.
The previous generations of craftsmen had timeless taste. Color and finish trends come and go, but some designs stand the test of time. This Hepplewhite dresser is one of them. Circa 1940 this piece was modeled after the original designs of English cabinet maker George Hepplewhite from the 18th century. It has an elegant serpentine front along with the lesser found serpentine sides on the top. True to it's English roots, we chose...
"Beautiful antique dresser by the Northern Furniture Company which was started in 1881 in Sheboygan WI. This appears to be a mix of oak (body) and maple (drawer fronts). Updated using General Finishes Milk Paint in Basil and then lightly distressed. The drawer fronts were sanded to bare wood and left that way. The original knobs were missing so I added vintage-look library pulls." - Garage 9 v2

"Phew. To say this one was an undertaking for me is an understatement. And I, for sure, underestimated how much time it was going to take me to complete everything!

"When you’re a furniture refinisher, you have to buy pieces at a low cost in order to be able to put a sale price on it that allows you to earn some money for your work. I saw this buffet listed for sale, but the price was higher than I could do, plus, it was a good driving distance away. So, I scrolled on by. But THEN, I had a potential client contact me asking if I could refinish a buffet for her. That’s right, it was THIS buffet!!! She hadn’t purchased it yet, so we chatted about other...

The tops are textured harlequin. General Finishes Lamp Black, Pitch Black Glaze and High Performance Topcoat with Rustoleum Metallic Accents in Classic Bronze.
These end tables were very dated and the orange finish was failing. If you remember from a post a few days ago, I ended up removing the entire finish down to bare wood. We also added a plain piece of trim to cover the detail work that was on the front to make them more modern and up to date.
I started the refinishing with two coats of shellac to seal the wood and block the wood tannins from coming through my finish. I still wasn’t sure what direction I was going with these tables but because...
