"I found Serena languishing in a local thrift store. She was built in my local area nearly 100 years ago. Her existing finish was alligator scaly and she was missing veneer in a lot of places. This is the second dresser I chose to tackle and I envisioned I could transform her back to glory with some paint and glaze.

I cleaned her, stripped her, patched her and sanded her, and she began to come back to life.

I chose to stain the top with a custom mix of antique walnut and...

Mari got in touch with me and told me what she was looking for, the dimension range and her maximum budget for the piece. She then came in to the shop to go over color sample and ideas... eventually saying "do whatever you think is best" (which is my favorite thing to hear by the way) I want...
How gorgeous is this table by Handy Dandy Mandi?!   Mandi says, "Using a mix of Java and Black Gel Stain by General Finishes (of course!) 2 coats, then sanded back down lightly with a 320 grit, to let the grains pop. "This beautiful coastal dining set was originally just an ordinary table and chairs.  You know the type...orangey in color, out of style, ugly.  The top of the table was removed and I cut down different widths of wood planks to fit.  They were then sanded... and sanded some more.  Next I stained using a combination of General Finishes stains.  This combo is top secret, but I will reveal that Java, Brown Mahogany and Gray were used.  This gives the wood an old, weathered look.  I then dry...

"This beautiful antique dresser is now available! It is a 100 year-old dresser restored and refinished with General Finishes Milk Paint in Linen and Brown Mahogany Gel Stain." - Rancho La Flor

This little dresser is a functional work of art!  The base of the dresser was painted in General Finished "Lamp Black", and lightly distressed.  It also got a "new" reclaimed wood top, which was hand-stained in a Southwestern design using 4 different GF Gel Stains: Java, Antique Walnut, Nutmeg, and Black.  The entire piece was sealed using GF high-performance satin polyacrylic for a durable finish.

This is the first time I tried GF gel stain in black. It's a super dark and rich color. I applied it in broad thick strokes using a paper towel. I used a loose gestural motion in the application. The end result is a subtle yet dramatic texture on the surface of this art deco dresser. The drawer fronts were sanded to the raw veneer and sealed with GF High Performance Topcoat in satin.

This classic Hepplewhite buffet was redesigned in a deep, rich gray  -  Queenstown Gray Milk Paint by General Finishes. I have been trying out this line of paint and have been very happy with how it goes on and distresses. I rubbed back the paint to allow some of the original wood to show and the contrast is lovely. The top was sanded down and re-stained in General Finishes Java Gel Stain and finished with their Semi-Gloss Top Coat.

The inside of the drawers and cabinets are painted...

Missing drawers, layers of filth, a rotting leather top, and a rusty, pieced together sheet metal back were no match for me!

The leather was taken off.  Rusty back peeled away.  Empty shelves sawed out.  Hardware removed.  Thoroughly cleaned. Body completely sanded.  Drawers lightly sanded to preserve some patina.
