About This Post
"There is so much to love about an antique empire chest of drawers – proud stance, curvy scrollwork, and graduated drawers are signature characteristics of the coveted 1800s American style.
Our newest charm, Suzannah bridges the gap between traditional and contemporary design, delivering excellent craftsmanship and a new two-toned look to her new home.
The vision was clear, but it took some time and care to get her to this reveal. After good cleaning and prep sanding, I chose General Finishes Brown Mahogany Gel Stain to revive her top and stunning flame mahogany veneer work which actually held up well over her lifetime. Her body and accessory drawers were weathered, so after making repairs, I added raised stencil details and refinished her in General Finishes Lamp Black Milk Paint. To preserve a flat look and not sacrifice durability, I chose Dixie Belle Paint Company Howdy-Do HempSeed Oil as a finishing sealer. And to tie everything together, I added new black and gold pumpkin knob hardware."
