Milk Paint

Nothing is ever simple... I've spent a week working on the 100+ year old white Italian marble. Although still a faint shadow...a million times improvement. These pieces have had a life, a journey and sometimes there's a "hiccup" along the way. The mark was left from the original wood top piece that sat on the marble for years. (It was NOT an attractive top piece and the mirror was too far gone to save BUT those items are safely stored to be reincarnated at a future time) What I...

Before and After General Finishes Linen Milk Paint
"This lovely little piece was in great shape when I got it. But of course it needed to be given a fresh new life. I decided to paint the shell in the always gorgeous and sleek GF Lamp Black. I also distressed the edges to show off some of the gorgeous natural wood underneath. For the top and drawers I sanded and stained in General Finishes Antique Walnut Gel Stain followed by their High Performance Topcoat." - Ray's Refurbishing

"Vintage Regency 9 Drawer Buffet/Media/Chest This piece came in structurally perfect but a cosmetic mess. Originally finished in "dirty yellow" with chips, nicks and dents. At 74" long it needed height to give it the presence it deserved. 4 corner mount legs were added. An additional 2 legs were bolted through the center to fully support its length and weight. Finished in timeless General Finishes Antique White. Sealed in General Finishes High Performance flat Topcoat." - Raised Expectations...

"My favorite part about this refinished dresser? Probably the new stained top in Antique Oak Water Based Stain. The wood grain is gorgeous! The rest of this dresser was painted in General Finishes Seagull Gray Milk Paint. My client picked this one from my unfinished inventory, and said she was fine with new hardware. I recommended cleaning it up first to see how they looked, and now the handles look brand new!" - Flipping Unbelievable
Large buffet made by Mount Airy Furniture Company of North Carolina. This high end piece is made of solid mahogany. The drawers slide perfectly. The doors open onto a large space that runs the width of the buffet. (No shelves) The drawers are dovetailed and the drawer boxes are all wood. It is a very well made piece of furniture. The finish was updated using...

"Sanded and stained the top in General Finishes Antique Walnut Gel Stain which also meant it would need a coat of High Performance Topcoat for protection and durability. For the body she chose GFs never fails to be stunning Lamp Black. I followed that up with a light waxing and buffing. The hardware is original to the piece." - Ray's Refurbishing

My client knew she wanted a two tone look on her vanity, so we went with...

A lovely pair of nightstands by American of Martinsville. This set likely dates to the 80’s (scary that that’s vintage now, isn’t it?!?). They are fairly large and very sturdy, with an open shelf area and a single drawer that has dovetail joinery at the backs. They are a mix of wood and engineered materials. This pair was given a refresh using...
"When in doubt, paint it black, you will never be let down! This desk looks so incredibly chic now!  Naomi used this desk to do her homework when she was still in school and wanted a refresh to it to use it in her home now. Started out with a good sanding and cleaning, patched a few scratches and holes and we had to add an inch of wood to the middle two legs to even them out with the others. no idea why they were shorter. Then we primed and painted in General Finishes Lamp Black and stained...

"From a hot mess of peeling veneer...to a lovely statement piece for the home. A full "gut" of this piece with removal of peeling and chipping veneer followed by patching and leveling of its surfaces. Finished in General Finishes Antique White (a soft non yellow based creamy white). Stunning floral, bird and butterfly motif with a lovely Persian blue background. A simple glass and Antique brass finish pull was the perfect compliment." - Raised Expectations
"This vintage Kroehler was such a little liar. Faux finished wood grained fronts turned into a natural birch upon stripping. I mean it was a surprise but it wasn’t all bad…. Because as you know I’m a pretty big fan of raw toned wood. Paired up with General Finishes Basil Milk Paint gave us the perfect Boho natural tones for this piece. And we’re definitely Not unhappy with the result." - Restoration Reserve

"Took this kitchen from honey oak to something a bit more modern and elegant using General Finishes Lamp Black Milk Paint, with High Performance Topcoat in a Flat." - Goodwillhunting Lawson

"Sneaking in a couple quick and easy projects. And know that when I say quick and easy for this, it’s only because my father in law already cleaned and sanded and primed this piece, and I already had the color paint in my spray gun from a different project. This garbage holder was painted in General Finishes Perfect Gray, it’s such a pretty color and goes along with a few other items in their home. I don’t have a “before” picture but it was an orangish oak stain previously." - Flipping...

Don’t hassel The Hoff and get this stunner before him and KITT drive off and head for the hills on another crime...
OHHHH THIS PIECE!! First and foremost…it is GINORMOUS!! Second of all it’s OLD. It is primitive and has loads of character!! I can only imagine the stories that it could tell! I wanted to retain a lot of its original character and keep it somewhat primitive. I wanted this piece to look old but still fit into a modern home. Black never fails. Black suits this cupboard, don’t you agree? The piece had seen some better days but it is solid oak and honestly, they don’t build pieces like...

I then sealed the paint by spraying GF High Performance Topcoat." - Flipping Unbelievable
"Antique solid wood display cabinet/hutch all dressed up in black and ready for a new home. When I got this piece it was definitely in great shape. But with a little elbow grease and some stunning General Finishes Lamp Black Milk Paint it now looks like new!" - Ray's Refurbishing
"Adorable vintage bookcase. Possibly homemade. Solid wood. This piece was updated with General Finishes Milk Paint in Antique White and was lightly distressed." - Garage 9 v2
I think this beauty deserves a post on its own. I received several messages/comments asking me why would I paint a antique. First, this is not a antique, it dates back to the 50’s. Secondly, WHY the heck not! It doesn’t hurt the value, in my case, it raises the value. I have yet lost money painting anything   Products- General Finishes Milk Paint in Dark Chocolate on the outside and shelves. Dixie Belle Paint Company Coffee bean on back and Hemp Oil to seal. I’d have used Dark...
"Such a good transformation! I squared off the bottom portion to give it an updated look, completely replaced the top since the previous one was laminate and not stainable, and new hardware. The bottom was painted in General Finishes Basil for a fun pop of color and the top was stained in Brown Mahogany. The new top looks so good it almost looks fake! This was done for my client’s daughter, a surprise for her birthday and that’s such a sweet idea!" - Flipping Unbelievable
"A true statement piece for the home. A full refinish in General Finishes Lamp Black. All 7 drawers have custom hand created raised floral finish. "Introducing our stunning antique corner cabinet. It was meticulously refinished in elegant Lamp Black with a refined interior in Perfect Gray, products by General Finishes. Admire the intricate fret wood work on the top cabinet door!  This exquisite piece features two shelves in the top compartment and one in the bottom, offering both beauty and functionality." - The Picket Fence
"Custom Rustic Chic Buffet. In its original state this one had been hit hard by the ugly stick. It was GOLD with the most hideous hardware I've ever seen. The stunning lines caught my eye and it was a perfect candidate for redesign. All hardware was removed and reconfigured using simple hand finished wood pulls... which tie in beautifully to the custom built top. The top has a multi layered dye stain finish that produces a lovely aged finish. The round accent areas on front and sides had...
"Well we took an ugly yellow table and turned it around as a new LIFE! Stripped down and finished in GF Antique White with beautiful Van Dyke Brown glazing in the details! Top has been stripped of that disgusting veneer and found a spectacular wood base that we finished for the most amazing blend of wood tones! Hand applied General Finishes Arm-R-Seal in satin. I love this piece. It’s versatile in style and detailed enough to look custom!" - Restoration Reserve
