Have I told you how much I love chartreuse??
This old girl needed a refresh! She was solid structurally but looked tired. Once I got the old finish off the top, I knew that I wanted to keep it wood. And I loved the wood details on the top drawer so that just had to be wood as well. I tried taping off the details fifty ways to Sunday to protect them from the paint but I just ended up with a lot of wasted tape. I remembered when I first started this business, people were using Vaseline as a...
Unusual commode, simple, with interesting dimensions. In a narrow range of cold colors where blues and purples permeate each other. Layered applied General Finishes paint in Klein Blue, Royal Purple, Coastal Blue, Lime Green, Snow White. The shimmering metallic effect of Pearl Effect in gold and Brick Red was applied on the spot. Visible cracks and splinters add "years". The center is an energizing plum.
The look of this dresser makes my heart beat faster. Age-old, made of solid wood with elements of oak veneer. One of its kind, aged by multi-layered application of a whole range of mixed colors on the furniture, which gently penetrate each other creating an impression of being damaged by time. The inspiration for it was impressionist paintings trying to capture the fleeting moment and the sensual play of colors.
One of my favourite places for second hand hunting is the Old Fire Station. It's run by two hilarious guys, full of fabulous stories about their house clearance adventures. The whole place is filled with gorgeous goodies, mostly older antiques that wouldn't look out of place in a country manor house, but they often have little bits and bobs and I reckon they enjoy me and my mum popping in. We generally buy all the old tat - garden rakes, old posters, broken chairs. More often than not they...
