About This Post
"Took a couple additional challenging steps to recreate this piece but I’m so glad I had the chance to do it. Unfortunately the veneer on the top and both sides was in very poor condition and needed to be removed. Luckily I was able to save the bottom portion of the waterfall design and literally cut it horizontally so I could remove to top portion and then apply a border appliqué. The top and sides were then painted in General Finishes Lamp Black along with the borders of the whole vanity. Next step was to sand down all the drawer faces and apply several coats of polyurethane to all the wood surfaces. The original hardware was simply amazing so I just added some gilding wax to brighten it up a bit. Lastly, I needed to locate a vanity seat. Along my travels I came across this perfect settee which needed some new paint and upholstering. The mirror is amazing with carved appliqués attached on top and both sides. It also has floral etchings at the base. There is some minor crazing at the base of the mirror but honestly it just gives the piece a beautiful aged look!" - Steener's Attic Refinished, Repurposed and Antique Furniture
