Aztec Hope Chest

About This Post

When I first saw Grandma's cedar chest I just knew I could breath new life into it. The poor thing was at an estate sale in the garage, full of musty blankets and the rear left leg was broken. I loved the faux  drawers on the front and was surprised to find an actual separate drawer on the bottom. After repairs were made and thoroughly cleaned inside & out, I used my Fuji Semi Pro 2 sprayer to lay a rich General Finishes Lamp Black basecoat. I love texture and depth so I felt a Queenstown Gray wash was in order to add interest. Then the real fun began. I saw some photos of some beautiful black and white Pendleton blankets and wanted to recreate a pattern I saw online. I did some measuring and found someone that could make a stencil in the design & size I wanted. That is the largest portion of the design. I used Antique White for the large geometric design and the smaller little arrow shapes I brought out horizontally to the left. It still needed a little more, so very small arrowheads & dots were added vertically to the right of the large design. Once that was all completed it needed a little more punch. In comes a little help from Modern Masters Gold Rush, kicking it up a notch to give a once ho-hum cedar chest a spirited new outlook. I hope you like it as much as I do!
