Antique Walnut Table

About This Post

"A Deilcraft dining table is such an amazing find! With the top a gorgeous walnut veneer and the skirt and legs ash, this table and it’s two leaf extensions exude mid century modern goodness. I started by sanding the top using my DEWALT 5” random orbit sander. I don’t mention nearly enough that I use the corded type but I should! Have constant power running to this tool helps with consistent results. I find it more powerful and I never need to worry about a battery running out. It’s definitely one of my “must-have’s. The round bottom edge of the top, the skirt and the legs I sanded with my SurfPrep Sanding 3x4 sander. Another piece of equipment that makes my life so much easier. Those curved edges that used to make my stomach do those weird drops, are a breeze. After sanding and cleaning the dust, I applied General Finishes pre-stain conditioner. I cannot speak highly enough about the value of using this product. It helps to create such an even finish for your stain. Wanted to enhance the wood so chose General Finishes Antique Walnut Gel Stain. Can you believe that is only one coat of stain?? The coverage and evenness is incredible. I used General Finishes High Performance Topcoat. I use Annie Sloan’s flat brush to apply and I get a streak free finish every time. Because it’s a high use piece, I apply topcoat 3 times giving it at least 6 hours in between coats. I used to get so nervous taking on projects that a) were completely stain and b) had a lot of curved edges. Now that I have more experience, the right equipment and the best products, I feel so much more confident." - Kristin Lia Restoration
