Gel Stain

Gel Stain from General Finishes is home of the popular Java Gel Stain featured across the nation's social media for upcycling furniture and cabinets. Gel wood stains are heavy-bodied and do not penetrate as deeply into the wood as liquid oil-based wipe-on stains do, providing the deepest, richest colors of any oil-based stain available.

"For the body of this dresser, I painted it in Slate Gray Chalk Style Paint. I’ve used quite a few brands of “chalk paint” before, and I definitely liked the General Finishes version. It’s a little less thick than others, which I actually prefer, and it went on super smooth. The finish also seems stronger than other chalk paints, so I left it as-is for now. Donna Ginther transformed her golden oak cabinets by painting 3 coats of General Finishes Gray Gel Stain over her existing finish. What a gorgeous end result! The color of GF's Gray Gel Stain is so light that it can only be successfully applied over raw wood with the wipe-away application method. If you prefer the painted look, we recommend using Milk Paint instead of Gel Stain. Still, Gel Stain is an excellent finish when painted on and we are thrilled to see the success of this project!
