Milk Paint

Wow!  Vintage transformed into modern!

You can’t go wrong with this weathered messanger dresser.  Perfect for your office or bedroom!

GF Driftwood

1 oz each color dry brushed:

GF Antique White, Choc Brown, Snow White, Buttermilk Yellow

This Faux wood finish was created by a base coat of Seagull Gray milk paint, dry brushed on Antique Walnut Gel Stain, then a white and brown glaze! I literally made this finish up by getting out all my products out, giving them a good stare for about 30 minutes, then a little trial and error. End result was a happy client!

Those curves just said “armour” to me, so I went with it! A fantastic faux finish to look like galvanized metal. Layers of Driftwood Gray, White Glaze Effects, and Van Dyke Brown bring this dirty, rustic metal feel to life. This end table became the center of attention in a modern farmhouse living room and completed the look with perfection!!

With all of the details on this coffee table I knew I wanted to do something with lots of layers.  First I painted the base in Driftwood Gray, a nice medium gray color.  Next I added a topcoat preparing it for the glaze.  I used pitch black glaze effects to get in all the little areas and make them pop. For the final step I used the Argentine Pearl Effects along with the pitch black glaze to layer a texture on the entire piece.  I used a short stubby brush to pounce the products on the...

This beautiful Thomasville buffet did not sell in its original dated condition. The brass hardware was removed from the back and the top stripped and sanded down to remove all scratches and rings. The top was stained expresso and the body was painted in a rich custom mixed bright turqouise. It was then glazed with GF pitch black glaze and crumpled bags were used to get the faux effect. The entire piece was topcoated with GF High Performance Topcoat in flat. The result is an updated buffet/...

The elegant curves of these quaint end tables is contrasted by the rustic look of the faux barnwood tops, creating a versatile charm perfect for any decor.

These "rustic" filing cabinets were recreated from a finish in a photograph, emailed to me online, and a small drawer face the client removed from her brand new desk.  The project took many layers to create such a worn, rustic finish.  These pieces make me wan to curl up with a book and a blanket next to a fire!

Cleaned with a DNA prep, these pieces were sanded and primed with BIN.  The base color coat is GF Linen, sprayed with an HVLP Titan Turbine Capspray 95.  I needed a glaze...

Awesome dresser restyle with General Finishes Brick Red Milk Paint

"Look at all that blue yumminess! This big dresser was beautiful knotty pine to begin with but I thought it could use a little facelift. It’s been painted with a custom blue using General Finishes Snow White, Antique White, Coastal Blue and Federal Blue. Federal Blue is a discontinued color, that I absolutely love, but I happened to find some several months ago and have been squirreling it away. Silly right? I decided it was time to break it open! The wash is Antique White and I custom mixed...

Stained shims really added some much needed texture to this boring flat front dresser.  A mixture of General Finishes Queenstown and Lamp Black with High performance flat topcoat. Shims stained in Antique walnut.

COLOR RECIPE

  • 1 part Queenstown
  • 1 part Lamp Black

The  Southern Hills coffee table features a two-tone white and weathered driftwood finish.

The top was custom made with new wood cut and attached in a herringbone pattern.

The detailed cut-out apron and elegant turned legs were painted in Antique White. The herringbone top was given a wash with diluted driftwood paint. Antique white was then dry brushed over the top, creating a refined rustic look.

This dresser was ugly, drab and boring. Can you imagine feeling ugly, drab and boring and then you add a little lipstick, mascara, gloss and Nars bronzer (gold leaf) and just be walking around looking sunkissed for all the world to see? Yup...calling this piece Nars. Clean, sleek and artsy fartsy.

2018 GF Design Challenge - Upcycling Merit Categories›Barnwood Chic›Runner Up

This pantry door was SO FUN to paint... and it was also for my own kitchen (YAY!) so I could reallly get creative with it! It’s actually “half” of a French door set that I found at our local Habitat ReStore.... and what do you know, it was the EXACT size of our pantry door... easy swap!!!

It all started with a coat of “Costal Blue”... I was going to distress and stop there... but since I was keeping it for myself, I decided to have a little bit of fun!  I started getting carried away...

This antique secretary was lovely as is, just a bit dated. With the faux barnwood finish, I was able to give it a fresh new look that perfectly complements my clients space!

Any French Provincial piece is stunning on it's own but adding paints and glazes can bring out its curves and details!  After looking at this piece for sometime as it took up the majority of space in our dining room I finally decided on breaking out of the norm of the white distressed base with a stained top and went for blends and washes of different grays. Everyone in the house was happy that a decision was finially made and I was no longer second guessing my decision!

COLOR...

Fun and functional, this Mid-Century three drawer dresser pops with color and style! It was rescued from a bike repair shop, found when looking at another piece of furniture. It was in pieces and had extensive damage. It was painted in a very safe grey and black, but was virtually ignored for months so another makeover was due! Multiple colors were used to create a mod geometric pattern reminiscent of this era. The entire piece is covered in the best top coat on the market, General Finishes...

Fun and bright end tables in GF Coral Crush Milk Paint

"I'm a sucker for the curves of French Provincial pieces. This lady was painted for a client using a custom mix of General Finishes Milk Paint in Driftwood and Linen using a 2:1 ratio. The body was glazed with GF Pitch Black Glaze Effects for a streaky finish. The top was darkened by adding some Lamp Black to the paint mix and then streaked with the glaze. The entire piece is sealed with High Performance Topcoat for a satin finish. Last but not least the pulls were freshened up in silver...

Farmhouse desk by Odds and Ends. The top is a layered in General Finishes Driftwood and Seagull Gray and the base is Linen.

Beautiful secretary painted with GF Antique White Milk Paint and accented with mod podged tissue paper.

"I fall in love with this color a little more EVERY time we use it! We updated this gorgeous piece with General Finishes Coastal Blue, Antique White to brighten the cabinet & cleaned up the original brassy pulls for an incredible, versatile makeover!" - Captiva Home - Furniture Painting
