Painted orange builder grade oak bathroom cabinets with Java Gel thin layers with foam brush. Applied there coats of Java Gel followed by two coats of polyurethane. We did not use remove excess using rag method instead we used dry foam brush to smoothen the surface and spread any excess. As we applied very thin layer, we did not leave much excess gel stain on the surface to smoothen. It really takes 3 coats to have solid finish.
