About This Post
"This came to us in complete dilapidated disrepair. She was delivered in a pile of drawers, trim and components.....a sad demeanor that was literally nonexistent of life. A solid but trusty massive hutch, likely a 1930's Reproduction piece of old English Jacobean Style- she needed JUST the right Client. And some of you KNOW how to push me to stretch my artistic muscles in ALL SORTS OF WAYS.... and boy did this one do exactly that! Cinderella here came to The Reserve with a special built-in place in her clients kitchen.... a place in desperate need of a special refresh in color, out of necessity in place and space-And now, she's officially ready for her debut at the ball, in a place of honor and prestige!
So here's what we did:
After a game of puzzles and reassembly, and a full HAND sand down (ok this took a full WEEK!) we did a shellac base coat to seal and preserve the wood. Body is painted in General Finishes Persian Blue, with Antique White floating inserts. Those portions were glazed in a Smoke Grey. The panels have been hand gold leafed and then aged with Pitch Black Glaze in order to create distinction and an antiqued look to the pure leafing. The oak top was stripped, hand sanded, Stained in a custom mixture of Deep Kona and Jacobean and then sealed in three coats of Arm-R-Seal Gloss and final in Satin. And no, we didn't forget the feet.... the base will get trimmed out to match the baseboards of the house." - Restoration Reserve
