Graystone and Antique Oak Custom Stain

About This Post

I had a really hard time dating this incredible piece. I couldn’t find any writing, makers mark, or dates on it.
What I could find is the hand cut dovetails telling me it’s likely before 1880. The overall style also leans towards Neo-Greek with the intricate foliate carvings and fluted columns. This style was popular around 1850-1880. I could be completely wrong because I’m still learning, but regardless✨she’s OLD and she’s GORGEOUS.✨

When I got it, it was an insanely dark red that spoke Christmas against the green marble. Had about 20 holes where the hardware was replaced over the years and had loose boards begging for reinforcement. So It got some minor repairs, a strip down, sand, and a complete makeover.

Made of solid mahogany it’s a naturally dark red wood and I wanted to tone it down just a bit.
The new stain color was achieved by mixing General Finishes 1 part Graystone and 2 parts Antique Oak. It came out perfect.
The beautiful dark green marble was in incredible shape for its age. Just needed a good clean and some sealer.
And of course all drawers got a liner and a good wax conditioner.
She’s ready to live for 100 years more.
