I think this beauty deserves a post on its own. I received several messages/comments asking me why would I paint a antique. First, this is not a antique, it dates back to the 50’s. Secondly, WHY the heck not! It doesn’t hurt the value, in my case, it raises the value. I have yet lost money painting anything   Products- General Finishes Milk Paint in Dark Chocolate on the outside and shelves. Dixie Belle Paint Company Coffee bean on back and Hemp Oil to seal. I’d have used Dark...

"I knew what I wanted to do with it the minute I spotted it. Lots of love went into this one. It went from outdated orange to rustic and relevant. Here’s the skinny: Stripped with Citristrip, Sanded completely x 2, Bleached x 2, Cleaned x 3, Paint washed x 2 with General Finishes Milk Paint in Millstone, Sealed in Flat out Flat water based topcoat by General Finishes." - Sue’s Vintage Creations
Gorgeous custom mixed color! General Finishes Dark Chocolate 1.5 parts, and Sunglow 1 part.
"Not every roadside find turns out to be real wood and this is exactly what I encountered with these. Composite materials don’t stain well or consistently but I promised my client I would do my best to achieve the wood look he was after. I removed all the old paint, primed and then spray finished these bedside tables using General Finishes Dark Chocolate Milk Paint to resemble a rich espresso stain look. I sanded the tops out and then created a “faux” wood grain look. First time for...

This modern dresser has been freshly painted in Millstone and White for a dipped look. The dresser has been sealed with multiple layers of High Performance top coat for durability.

"I absolutely adore this set. I’m not going to lie- I contemplated painting these for a few weeks but I just couldn’t bring myself to! True old oak is becoming SO hard to find and good quality wood shouldn’t be covered up in my opinion. Old growth white oak….. so while they did have some of that natural honey color, we had to subdue- I couldn’t be more thrilled with how these updated onto a traditional yet very versatile style! Translucent in General Finishes Millstone Milk Paint- created...
"There is something so classic and timeless about beige. So many shades, so much possibility. I doubt I'll ever tire of it! To create this look we used: General Finishes Millstone (10 parts) to Lamp Black (1 part). Fine weave cane, antique brass hardware and Tempaper liners." - Saved By Design

"Believe me when I say, I tried EVERYTHING to find a spot for this beauty in my house. I purchased this piece from Habitat for Humanity Restore and instantly thought bar cart, but this piece is so versatile that you could use it as a coffee bar, a media stand, a plant stand, even a mobile book shelf. The entire piece was paint washed in General Finishes Millstone, this color is easily becoming one of my favorite neutrals! Even the Folk II Transfer from Re·design with Prima received a paint wash...
These end tables were very dated and the orange finish was failing. If you remember from a post a few days ago, I ended up removing the entire finish down to bare wood. We also added a plain piece of trim to cover the detail work that was on the front to make them more modern and up to date. I started the refinishing with two coats of shellac to seal the wood and block the wood tannins from coming through my finish. I still wasn’t sure what direction I was going with these tables but because...
We don't just refinish furniture, we transform it. Being able to combine natural recycled rattan with true mid century craftsmanship is always a yes in our world. If you think this set looks familiar to you, you're right! The cane hutch we did a few months back is the mate to this set. I never thought I'd find another piece as classy as that hutch, and then I found this stunning (and MATCHING) set! The legs alone are classic mid century modern with a relaxed boho vibe. Made by American of...
"The cane addition added so much texture and interest to this design. To create this look: •General Finishes Millstone Milk Paint cane webbing http://www.caneandbasket.com/ •Brasso Metal Polish •Rustoleum Pure Gold spray paint if you have a piece of brass that is too pitted to polish. •Klean Strip stripper for the raw wood accents •Earlex 5500 HVLP sprayer for the smoothest finish" - Saved By Design   Foducts
"It didn't take long to go from 80s drab to clean modern upgrade. Inspired by Pottery Barn's gorgeous cane line. Designed with simplicity in mind, they have been finished in the classic GF Millstone with minimalist finger pull knobs, solid wood contemporary legs and organic cane." - Saved By Design
These took FOREVER. But I was determined to keep the wood in its natural state and not just slap some paint on them. 100% solid maple wood. (Some outer trim on drawers is polar, but majority is maple. Top row of drawers has gorgeous maple burl accents) Stripped twice, then sanded. Hours upon hours of hand sanding all the grooves, nooks and crannies. I’m now sporting bandaids on 3 fingers due to so much sanding. Fun fact: sanded, raw wood is absolutely gorgeous but the minute you go to...

"GF Dark Chocolate for the win! These ‘made in China’ end tables weren’t worth refinishing, so a faux wood treatment on top saved the day. I love this paint."

"I’m pretty proud of how it turned out!!! The look I went for was a $2,000 Hooker chair that I loved but obviously not as much at that price...So I was pretty excited to find an ugly 60s chair on Marketplace for only $10!!! I completely updated it with all new foam and a beautiful camel leather fabric from Hobby Lobby and I painted the frame in a layered General Finishes Dark Chocolate finish! What do you think?!?" -NB.Restorations
General Finishes Dark Chocolate for the win!! We have refurbished this little side table for our client and it was a great way to give a special piece new life. ❤️"

Use Dark Chocolate Milk Paint by General Finishes to get the look of stain on surfaces that don’t stain well. This baby Jacobean Buffet had a Tulip Poplar top, which does not take stain well. I found a way around that using 2 coats of Dark Chocolate and 2 coats of High Performance Topcoat in Satin.

"This cabinet is a beast! I love these old pieces! It was a handmade family heirloom that we sanded down to raw wood and applied General Finishes White Gel Stain. We then sanded it back giving it a nice worn beachy look and highlighted the grooves with Van Dyke Brown Glaze Effects. We also added feet making this cabinet more then 9’ tall! It turned out beautiful! The picture doesn’t do it justice!!"

"I have had a lot of requests for matching nightstands lately. They can be hard to come by but I got lucky finding this oversized set and they turned out beautifully! The tops were striped down to bare wood and stained with General Finishes Java Gel Stain and sealed with Arm R Seal for maximum protection. The bottom was then painted in layers starting with Alabaster, followed by a color wash of Driftwood and a dry brushing of brown glaze. Once I sanded down and blended all three colors I...

"This turned into quite the project! Our client took all of these pieces off of an old wardrobe and had them painted to be used as wall art and an artificial fireplace! What a great idea. They turned out absolutely gorgeous! These were done with a mix of Limestone, Seagull Gray, and Antique White Milk Paints by General Finishes, and glazed in Van Dyke Brown Glaze Effects, Slate Gray, and Patina Green." - Painted Paradise, by Duke Interiors and Restoration

These "rustic" filing cabinets were recreated from a finish in a photograph, emailed to me online, and a small drawer face the client removed from her brand new desk.  The project took many layers to create such a worn, rustic finish.  These pieces make me wan to curl up with a book and a blanket next to a fire!

Cleaned with a DNA prep, these pieces were sanded and primed with BIN.  The base color coat is GF Linen, sprayed with an HVLP Titan Turbine Capspray 95.  I needed a glaze...

For the desk and hutch interior we used Enduro Antique White Poly." - Twig & Thyme Design
